What is IUI Treatment?

Intrauterine insemination, which is commonly known as IUI, is a fertility treatment that includes placing the sperm right inside the uterus to induce fertilsation. The main goal of this technique is to increase the chances of getting pregnant naturally by enhancing the number of sperms directly into the uterus, usually offered together with ovulation-inducing drugs, which increase the chances of pregnancy, and trans-vaginal ultrasound (TVS), which helps in predicting ovulation.

KD Blossom offers highly effective IUI (intrauterine insemination) treatment in India, which involves directly injecting sperm into the uterus to facilitate fertilisation. While the sperm is placed closer to the egg, it must reach and fertilize it naturally. The IUI procedure is minimally invasive and more affordable compared to other fertility treatments, such as IVF, making it a cost-effective option for many couples seeking to conceive.

IUI is a widely used infertility treatment for sub-fertility and unexplained infertility, among other conditions. It has fewer side effects, lower health risks, is cost-effective, and has reasonable success rates.

It is recommended to complete 3 to 6 IUI cycles when all criteria for IUI are met. After six cycles, the chances of conceiving decrease significantly.

If it fails after 3-6 cycles, then moving on to a more aggressive treatment, such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF), is the next option.

What is the IUI procedure?

Ovulation-stimulating medications can be used before starting the intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedure. These medications help increase the number of eggs produced by your ovaries. We will carefully monitor the development of these eggs to determine when they are mature. The IUI procedure is performed around the time of ovulation, usually 24 to 36 hours after a rise in the LH hormone in your body, which indicates that ovulation is approaching.

In the IUI process, the semen is processed in the lab to separate the sperm from the seminal fluid. Once this is done, a thin catheter is used to place the concentrated sperm directly into the uterus. It ensures the sperm is deposited closer to the egg, increasing the chances of successful fertilization. The IUI procedure takes only a few minutes and is minimally invasive, causing less discomfort. The next step is to monitor the signs and symptoms of pregnancy.

There are also certain factors that influence the success of IUI. These include,

01

The woman’s age. The IUI success rates by age vary significantly.

02

Sperm sample: A very low sperm count can decrease the success rate of Intrauterine Insemination (IUI).

03

Fallopian tube condition: At least one of the two fallopian tubes should be open for the IUI procedure to be performed successfully.

Some couples prefer to explore more traditional or alternative approaches before considering assisted fertility treatments. If you're trying to conceive and seeking guidance, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our fertility experts. We will help you navigate your options and recommend the most suitable fertility treatment based on your specific infertility concerns, the type of infertility, and your financial situation.

If IUI is unsuccessful, the next step for a couple is to consider the test tube baby (IVF) procedure.
